Drug/Pyrotechnic Detection Dog Handler (Part time, 6-month contract)

Rate: £30 per hour

Place of Work:

Operationally deployed within Midlands and London area, but able to travel nationally as per client requirements.

Role Profile:

You will need to be trained as a NASDU Level 3 Passive Drug detection and NASDU Level 3 Pyrotechnic detection dog handler.

NASDU Level 3 Proactive search team certificate would also be beneficial. 

You will be required to work within busy environments searching / screening at various locations

Conduct high visual patrols as part of a security layer acting as a deterrence and providing public reassurance to the client and their customers. 

Provide clients with advice on your Detection Dog capabilities and search procedures.

Handlers will need to be proactive and motivated and have a good understanding of basic training required to maintain your dog’s standards of efficiency.

Care and control of Search Dog/s:

  • This includes off duty care and housing at the handler’s home address.
  • Duties include, feeding, grooming, exercising, and ensuring veterinary and welfare needs are met in compliance with animal welfare legislation.
  • Transportation of dogs and self to deployments and training.
  • Supervision and control of the dogs in compliance with legislation and BS8517
  • Evaluation and reporting of dog’s performance
  • High profile proactive patrols with dogs.
  • Prompt response to requests for dog and handler searches 
  • Provision of specialist advice where appropriate
  • Promotion of security procedures
  • Compliance with ICTS Health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments
  • Compliance with ICTS and client assignment instructions.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

Abilities

  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Good inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt for short notice change of duties.
  • Ability to work  12hr deployments, where client requirements dictate.
  • Ability to work under pressure and conditions of uncertainty.
  • Ability to prioritise work, to observe timetables and to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to house dogs at home address.
  • Ability to transport dogs to work.
  • Ability to identify performance issues in dogs.
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work away from home, if required.

 Experience

  • Ideally have experience in handling a working dog.
  • Possess an SIA DS Licence or above. This will be required.
  • Ideally possess a current First Aid at Work Qualification. This will be required.
  • Experience within the security and /or manned guarding industry an advantage, but not essential.
