Charlotte joined ICTS’ Canine Division on 24th January 2011, based in Didcot, Oxfordshire. Her first role was that of a Monitor at the ICTS REST (Remote Explosive Scent Tracing) Centre where air cargo was remotely screened for traces of explosives using detection dogs. During her time at Didcot, Charlotte also became a Sampler, responsible for the collection and samples from the air cargo depots across the country that were then screened by the dogs at Didcot. Charlotte also assisted in the day-to-day running of the kennels and with the training of new dogs.
The REST Centre was one of only a few in the country and occasionally took part in experimental trials run by the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (DSTL). Charlotte volunteered to work on these trials as an Assistant. After a short time, she was given the opportunity to work as a Dog Handler during the trials.
As ICTS Canine Security Services Division grew, a vacancy became available for a Drug Detection Dog Handler. Charlotte applied for the position and was successful. She completed her Drug Detection licensing course at Surrey Police Regional Training School in August 2015 with two dogs: a black Labrador, Marvin and Springer Spaniel, Candy.
Both the explosive and drug detection side of the business was growing fast and as a result of the increased workload coming in through targeted advertising and word of mouth, Charlotte was assigned the new role of Drug Dog Coordinator. Her duties expanded, and she became solely responsible for the day-to-day running of the drug detection side of the business, from initial site visits with new or potential clients through to completing the deployments with her two detection dogs, Freddie and Cooper.
Charlotte’s work was very varied and ranged from schools; visiting both boarding and comprehensive schools providing drug awareness education, to mental health hospitals, universities, concerts, football stadiums and workplaces all over the UK.
Charlotte continued her professional development by becoming a NASDU (National Association of Security Dog Users) accredited Pyrotechnic Detection and Explosive Search Dog Handler in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
In December 2021 Charlotte was promoted to Canine Training Manager for our Corporate Security Division.
